Exciting Opportunity: Tender for Café Contractor at Our Ski Hill!

We are thrilled to announce the re-introduction of the biennial tender application process for the contract to run our beloved Café at the ski hill! This is an incredible opportunity for passionate and innovative entrepreneurs to bring their unique vision to our cozy mountain retreat.

A Heartfelt Shoutout to Jamie
Before we dive into the details, we want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to Jamie. For the past six years, he has been an outstanding tavern and Café operator, providing exceptional service and creating a welcoming atmosphere for all our visitors. His dedication, especially through the challenges of COVID and our past ski season (or lack there-of), has been truly commendable. We are incredibly grateful for his ongoing contributions and commitment to our community.

The Opportunity
We are now looking for enthusiastic applicants to express their interest in running the Café on our ski hill for a two-year term, with the potential for renewal every two years through our tender process. This position involves running your own company as a contractor within our Café, taking on the costs and responsibilities of managing the tavern.

Key Responsibilities:
Cain Cafe is located in the Day Lodge at the base of the ski area with a seating capacity of approximately 60 people. The fully operational kitchen is approximately 300 sq. ft. and includes a six-burner flat top and two ovens. Cain Cafe provides breakfast, lunch, dinner, après ski, and alcohol and non-alcohol beverages to Mount Cain guests. Kitchen employees must have Food Safe and Serving It Right. As our contractor, you would be responsible for:

  • Staffing
  • Menu planning
  • Food and beverage purchasing
  • Transportation of supplies to the base on a weekly basis
  • Weekly bookkeeping
  • Independent business licensing (with operation within the MCAPS liquor license and other licenses)
  • Serving supplies, and any unique cooking supplies specific to your menu
  • Serving food and beverage during the Mount Cain season (December – April)
  • Creating a family-friendly environment
  • The Café is open whenever Mount Cain is open, with a usual schedule of:
Friday 6 pm until 11 pm,
Saturday and Sunday from 8 am – 11 pm,
Monday for school groups until 3:30 pm
Note: Additional days to be considered over Christmas, New Years, Family Day, and Spring Break.   (You can find the operational schedule on our website)

As our contractor, you would communicate directly with our Director of Hospitality, and will operate within MCAPS rules and regulations including but not limited to hours of operations, quite times, safety policies, Respect in the Workplace policies and other MCAPS operational and organizational governance.

Application Details
The application form will take up to an hour to complete, so we encourage you to set aside some dedicated time to fill it out thoroughly. The MCAPS board values detailed applications to get to know each applicant and make the best decision for our community. Please take your time and answer the questions as fully as possible.

Deadline
All applications must be submitted by August 23rd. Late applications will not be considered, so please ensure you meet this deadline.

Our board will discuss all applications and announce our decision after our AGM in September.

We are excited to see the creativity and passion that each applicant will bring to this role. We encourage you to think outside the box and focus on how you can create a warm, inviting, and family-friendly atmosphere at our ski hill café.
Thank you for considering this opportunity, and we look forward to receiving your application!
