April 3, 2024
That’s all Folks! Our short and strange season has come to an end. This Saturday April 6th we are looking for volunteers to help wrap things up for 2023–24 season. A season in which we were fully operational for a total of 22 days, with 3 “base only” days during Christmas. Jamie brought joy, amazing food, libations, boulder clambering, and music to the Tavern; the events team worked quickly to dazzle us on short notice, and March came in like a lion and left just as quickly, like a lamb. Spring break’s slushy sunny days were a blessing and a blast; we were all so bummed to have to cancel Kids Fest and the Ski Patrol fundraiser.
We hope you too feel the season ended too soon and that is why we hope you will come back to Cain to help with the “clean up / pack up and put away work party” this Saturday April 6th – please!
- Bring a pair of gloves, your gumption and help clean up the parking lot, the lodge, accommodations, and other such tasks.
- The generator will not be turned on until 9 am Saturday morning, so that means folks will not have access to water / the flush bathrooms on Friday or Sunday. The outhouses near L1 will be open as always.
- There are rumours of an end-of-season Saturday night bonfire in the parking lot… Bring something to burn as a sacrifice to Ullr/Skadi for next season.
*Reminder to all our staff members that all personal items must be removed on Saturday morning.
MCAPS is continually grateful for our members – our season pass holders, our weekend warriors, accommodation bookers, tavern eaters, day trippers from near and far, and our school and community groups. The Mount Cain community and experience would not happen without our all-time, all-star staff and committed volunteers who stood by, on call, waiting for that snow to fall and jumping into action when it did. We hope this season left you jonesing for more, ready to return next season!
Looking ahead:
The MCAPS annual planning meeting occurs in late April. Current MCAPS Directors will come together for two days on site to review the 2023/24 season and to plan for the future. The meeting discussions include reviewing the MCAPS constitution, mission statement, values and goals as outlined in the 5 – 10-year plan, and a review of the financial state of MCAPS. These guiding documents and principles, in conjunction with feedback from Canada West Ski Area Association, the Mount Waddington Regional District and from MEMBERS, will help to inform decision making regarding any MCAPS policy or practices and the proper running of our beloved ski hill going forward. Suggestions, items and concerns brought forth at the monthly MCAPS meetings and better suited for end of season/intended for longer-term planning create the bulk of the planning meeting agenda.
To aid in our planning and inform our discussions, MCAPS is inviting all active members (anyone with a 2023-24 membership) to participate in this short membership engagement survey. If interested, please complete it by April 24, 2024, with survey feedback to be presented at the Planning Meeting.
I am sure there will be a few more newsletters/ updates before summer and you’ll definitely hear from MCAPS in late August with the AGM announcement and agenda – remember, it usually occurs the 3rd Saturday in September in conjunction with the startup work party.
May the flowers bloom bright in your spring garden,
Erin.
