Yup, it’s time for Viking Fest!
If you come to Cain for Viking Fest this weekend, you better prepare for a hjaldr (‘battle) in the snowboard cross. The course includes a fast course on Blueberry, complete with øksen (axe) throwing. Only the frœkn (brave) boarders with megin (power) stand a chance of winning and becoming the haralk (lord and ruler) of the hill. Those who fail to take the throne will live out their time in Valhalla.
Some say that Valhalla is the hall of slain warriors, who live there blissfully under the leadership of the god Odin. I say Valhalla is the Mount Cain Beer Garden, where tired skiers and boarders live blissfully under the spell of Chef Jamie. This weekend’s culinary adventures include a pig roast and cold beer accompanied by the sweet, sweet sounds of the band Ianspotting.
Nattmal (dinner) includes a Piggy Slider with Baked Potatoe n’ Slaw for $15.00. And don’t forget to bring your fur robes and horned helmets -there will be prizes for the best costumes.
Registration is at 10:00 in the Lodge, and the race runs from 11:00-2:00 on Blueberry. Celebrations, including prizes for best costumes, will take place in Valhallla (Beer Garden) from 3:00-7:00. After that, the festivities will continue in the Lodge with the one-man band little pharmer from Powell River.
Kidsfest is just around the corner, and we need some volunteers to support our crackerjack team of event organizers. If you want to lend a hand, email us at info@mountcain.com. Your help is greatly appreciated.
It is -4°, there is 196cm on the Ridge Run, and we have five weekends left this season. Make every run count.
See you on the slopes,
Jen
