Royal Watching at Cain
Royal watchers turned their attention from Harry and Megan to Mount Cain last weekend, waiting eagerly to see who would win the Cain Cup and be crowned King and Queen of the mountain. Over 40 skiers, boarders, telemarkers, and a monoskier raced The Face, with the top 10 men and top 10 women racing off to steal the crown from last years winners. Local paparazzi Kim and Linda could be seen at the finish line, in the Beer Garden and everywhere in between, recording the coronation. Eat your heart out, King Charles!
In the end, Megan Walter (aka “the other Megan”) retained her title as Queen. Samual Kent emerged to take the crown from defending champ Josh Cunningham.
Martin Leinsky swept the monoski category while Lucas Smith narrowly beat out Rowan Berkey as the fastest telemark skier. Kaila Storring and Jordan Lafant were the fastest snowboarders.
Did I mention that all this excitement took place during a blizzard? The fluffy white flakes began falling early Saturday morning and continued for hours, quickly accumulating into a thick layer of luscious, fluffy powder. Whoops and hollers could be heard on the runs and in the trees as powder hounds sought out virgin snow to lay down first tracks. Friendships were put on hold for a few hours because, well, there are no friends on a powder day.
