Most people visit Mount Cain on the weekends in the winter months, and enjoy all that the mountain has to offer. What many people do not know is that, behind the scenes, there is a network of individuals and companies toiling away at the many jobs that need to be done. From keeping the road equipment and groomers in working order, maintaining the lifts, doing upkeep on the buildings, and planning, planning, planning for the next weekend, ski seasons, and future of the mountain.
We are eternally grateful to the Friends of Mount Cain – the companies who donate time, equipment, and financial support that help us get the work done at a fraction of the cost. With their generosity, we are able to save money and keep ticket and rental prices affordable.
Walking (or skiing) amongst you are individuals who quietly help out when needed. In the past year, people have stepped up to help design and create the new building, fix our many snowmobiles, repair road equipment, drive down island for parts, go up mid week to meet with contractors, and on and on and on.
And for the volunteer Board of Directors, running Cain requires time and attention 12 months of the year. Under the guidance and leadership of President Erin Pickering, our ragtag group of volunteers manage the finances, buildings, machines, ski patrol, accommodations, staff and more. These are also the people who take turns reminding you to keep your dog tied up, your beer inside, and your volume low after 11:00.
The love that goes into Cain is immeasurable. We are forever grateful.
And there are ways that you can help! KidsFest 2022 is happening on March 19 and we need volunteers to help make this a magical day for the kids. If you can help out, please contact our Events Coordinator Matiss at mvaldmanis@mountcain.com for more info.
Finally, on March 5th help Cain embrace its Nordic roots by donning your best fur wrap and horns for Viking Fest 2022 – you could be awarded Best Dressed Warrior. Feud with your frenemy on the ski/snowboard cross on Blueberry, challenge yourself at Axe Throwing, and bless Ullr for more powder.
It is -7.3°C on the Ridge Run with a 167cm base. The forecast predicts below zero temperatures and fresh snow on Saturday.
See you on the slopes,
