ARRIVING ON FRIDAYS
On Fridays, the Mount Cain access road will be cleared by 3:00 p.m.
Drive up the Mt Cain road AFTER 3:00 p.m.
Before the road is cleared, it is often not drivable, even with chains, due to accumulated
snow. Sometimes you cannot even see the road until the snow is cleared.
Also, MCAPS equipment operators need to clear snow from the road and parking lot
without the hazard of sharing the road with private vehicles.
SAFE DRIVING ON THE MOUNT CAIN ROAD
On any day when the ski lifts are operating,
· Uphill/climbing traffic only from dawn until 1:00 p.m.
· Downhill/descending traffic only from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Drive with HEADLIGHTS ON at all times. Drive SLOWLY at blind corners and single
lane sections, which is most of the road. Be prepared to stop in case you meet another
vehicle, and be prepared to start on a hill, in case you must stop to avoid an accident.
CHAINS ARE MANDATORY - Chains that fit, Chains that you know how to use.
Chains that you intend to use.
Chains are mandatory for going both up and down the access road. Vehicles without
chains will be denied access. Make sure your chains are the right size for your vehicle,
are in good repair, you know how to install them, and you are READY to install them.
Actually putting tire-chains ON the tires is often REQUIRED FOR ALL VEHICLES,
including 4x4’s with good snow tires. Unprepared drivers put other drivers and their
passengers at risk.

BUNGEES, and a SHOVEL - Tighten the chains with two strong, short bungee cords at

snow, …or out of a snowbank.
